Do you take afternoon naps? Is it helpful or not? Studies say that there should be some afternoon naps. Well, that is one reason you shouldn't be called a lazy bum when you nap after lunch before going to work.
Taking afternoon is a tradition of the Romans that is carried on by the Spaniards. Afternoon nap is also called siesta. It is a centuries-old practice that you shouldn't be bothered to follow--you can explain to them the benefits of an afternoon nap if they are not convince: it is crucial to close your eyes for awhile before proceeding with the afternoon's work.
Afternoon nap or siesta will rejuvenate your energy to get you going for the rest of the day. Studies show that those who take a nap in the afternoon feel having more energy to continue the day's work plus in a glad mode than those you do not take afternoon naps.
The best time to take an afternoon nap is around one to two-thirty in the afternoon. High perfomance related to napping is found in those who sleep not more than 15 minutes. After that time, you will feel groggy as if you haven't sleep the whole night--that is due to what is called sleep inertia. It happens when you woke up in the middle of the sleep cycle.
If it is hard to time yourself 15 minutes of sleep, try holding a bunch of keys in your hand. As you try to sleep your muscles relax and so you drop the keys; the sound of it hitting the floor will awaken you. Then that is already the end of your afternoon nap.
Scientist have noticed a drop of temperature while you sleep and a rise in melatonin (substance crucial for growth); so for maximum comfort sleep in a cool dark room.
